visit one

I think my favorite part of this program is the fact that we get out of the NW part of the city. I went to SE for freshman service experience at the beginning of the year, and I go to church and to see a friend often in NE, but really that's it. I don't like spending all my time in only one quarter of the city.
I really liked traveling to Brookland to go to Hope Charter School, and I got to see where Dance Place is, which I've wanted to visit for a while now. Hope Charter School is really new, in fact they moved into their current facility last december, only two months ago. So everything looks really fresh and clean, and everyone seems happy to be there. I was really impressed with the principle, beause he went out of his way to find us and introduce himself, and he seemed like a really nice guy. Also, when parents were coming to pick up their kids, he went around joking with all of the kids and parents, and he seemed to know all the kids names.
I was dissapointed with the job we were given to do, which was stuffing envelopes and labeling them. I'd really wanted to start getting to know the kids. The good part of it was that I got to see where the different students live. I was suprised that there was a mix, that there were addresses from each quadrant of the city.
All in all, I think that this is going to be a great, really educational experience.
